Mountain Mist — Where the National Park Meets Your Private Mountain Hideaway
Perched high on a mountain top between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, bordered on all sides by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Mountain Mist is the kind of intimate couples retreat that turns a weekend getaway into a tradition. Couples come here for honeymoons. They come back for anniversaries. Then they come back again just because nothing else feels quite like this.
With over 111 reviews and a near-perfect 4.9 rating, Mountain Mist doesn't need to oversell itself — the guests do that just fine. "We spent more time in the cabin than we anticipated because it was just that great." "Nothing short of exceptional." "Quiet, peaceful, and very clean — we love this cabin." Year after year, the reviews tell the same story: once you stay at Mountain Mist, you don't want to leave.
The Setting: High, Private & National Park-Bordered
This isn't just a cabin near the national park — it's a cabin surrounded by it. Sitting at the very top of the hill in the Gnatty Branch area, Mountain Mist gives you the rare feeling of being completely alone in the mountains while still being just 7 miles from Dollywood and 10 minutes from Tanger Outlets. The front porch looks out over sweeping Smoky Mountain views, and the rocking chairs there might be the most relaxing spot in all of Tennessee. Guests consistently mention how surprisingly strong the water pressure and hot water are for being perched at the top of the mountain — a genuinely lovely bonus.
Inside: Intimate, Warm & Surprisingly Well-Appointed
Step through the front door into a cozy, beautifully decorated living room that immediately feels like home. The gas fireplace is the heart of the space — one guest mentioned claiming the recliner in front of it for their entire stay, and honestly, that sounds about right. A Smart TV with satellite, a 60-in-1 tabletop arcade game (a fun surprise for rainy afternoons), and a comfortable loveseat make this living area the perfect spot to unwind after a day of mountain adventures.
The fully equipped kitchen with Keurig, stainless Whirlpool appliances, all the cookware and utensils you need, wine glasses, and a dishwasher make in-cabin meals genuinely easy and enjoyable. A dining table for two sets the scene for candlelit mountain dinners that cost a fraction of a restaurant.
The King Bedroom: Your Elevated Retreat
The king bedroom upstairs features a Smart TV, beautifully comfortable bedding, and one of the most charming architectural details you'll find in any Smoky Mountain cabin — a barn loft window that looks down over the living room and out to the mountains beyond. It creates an incredibly connected, airy feel while still giving you the privacy of your own separate sleeping space.
But the real showstopper? Step directly from the bedroom onto the private screened-in deck where a large hot tub sits waiting — just for the two of you, completely secluded, with views of the national park that you could stare at for hours. Soak under the stars, watch the morning mist roll through the valleys, or simply sit in the rockers and breathe it all in. This is the feature guests mention most, and the one that keeps them booking again.
A Pigeon Forge Address That Works
Dollywood is 7 miles away. SkyLand Ranch is 10 minutes down the road. Tanger Outlets is just 4 miles. This cabin was perfect for us this week! A private, cozy place to stay while being close to both Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg. We had a wonderful trip. Only thing I missed was having a full length mirror. Otherwise, beautiful place!!

Great cabin! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The man at Heartland was so nice and had us call to make sure we got to the cabin ok. I thought that was an extra nice touch! We will definitely use them again!!

Very nice cabin. Comfortable. Clean. Front and back porch to sit and relax on. Quiet location but close to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Smoky Mountain National Park.

We have been vacationing and renting cabins in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area since our honeymoon almost 27 years ago. This was the first time we rented with Heartland cabin rentals, but it will definitely not be the last. My husband and I were able to come up for a week alone and the cabin and rental staff were awesome. Every interaction with someone in the office was great. The TV in the Livingroom went out and they were there that day to replace it. The only con I can think of is the fact that our cabin did not have a bathroom upstairs with the bedroom. You had to go downstairs in the dark if you needed to use the restroom in the middle of the night. It could be a little aggravating, but we loved our stay regardless. We also liked having the Xplorie passes. They made our stay just a little cheaper.

Cabin was clean and cozy little mountain cabin. Very nicely decorated still for Christmas which was a fun surprise. Loved the secluded mountain top cabin with a fun winding road. Quite and relaxing stay.

Great cabin. Very quite.
Would have liked cabins a little farther apart with views.

Very well organized and easy to get to. A nice secluded cabin with most of everything needed to get you started! Centrally located between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge! Nice and Private located among other cabins. Bit a bit higher than others. Making it secluded. Heartland was very accommodating and easy to get a hold of when needed! Had an issue with the coffee machine and had another one there. Early the next morning!
