Pigeon Forge Tennessee

Pigeon Forge was a relative latecomer to the tourism industry of the Smokies, but the city made up for its late start by exploding into a major family vacation hub, especially for the two-thirds of the country’s population that lives within a 1-day drive of East Tennessee. The town started out as through way to Gatlinburg, but these days, millions of people every year make Pigeon Forge their one and only destination.

Pigeon Forge was already playing catch-up with Gatlinburg in the 1960s and 1970s, but what started to put it on the map was the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, which sent thousands of overflow guests Smokies-bound in search of accommodations. What sealed Pigeon Forge’s fate, however, was the opening of Dollywood in 1986, and since then, things just haven’t been the same.

Dollywood Theme Park still serves as the linchpin of activity in Pigeon Forge. Going strong for more than a quarter-century now, the family-friendly amusement park continues to draw millions of visitors every year with its eclectic collection of thrill rides, family attractions, music shows, regional foods, and arts and crafts. Annual festivals and occasional appearances by Dolly Parton herself add to the park’s charm and keep people coming back each and every year.

But that’s not the only game in town when it comes to fun. World-class attractions like the Titanic Museum Attraction and WonderWorks complement dozens of family amusement centers featuring mini golf, go-karts, video arcades, bungee jumping and more. There are also more than a dozen music theaters in town, many of which feature multicourse dinners as part of their lineup. On the stages of these showplaces, you’ll see not just shows built on country and gospel music but also spectacles featuring lumberjack competitions, horseback competitions, family feuds and pure comedy.

Pigeon Forge is also known for its outlet malls. Locations like Pigeon River CrossingWalden’s Landing and The Shops of Pigeon Forge have been drawing savvy shoppers to the Smokies for years with its many shops that offer name-brand merchandise at substantial savings.

At Heartland Cabin Rentals, our lineup of properties features a wide selection of Pigeon Forge cabins, ensuring that no matter what you have planned during your stay in town, we’ll be able to match you up with just the right overnight accommodations.
