WEDDINGS IN THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS
With dozens of wedding venues located throughout Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville and with thousands of ceremonies performed here every year, it should be no wonder that the Smokies are known as the Wedding Capitol of the South. Next to Las Vegas, there are more wedding ceremonies held in Sevier County, Tennessee than in any other part of the country.
One of the main reasons is that couples who are tying the knot already have the ideal honeymoon location already built in to their travel plans. The mountains and the scenery are the ideal romantic backdrop for a honeymoon, and the Smokies area is packed with places to go and things to see and do. And there are plenty of options available when it comes to honeymoon accommodations, including romantic Smoky Mountain cabins complete with fireplaces, whirlpool tubs and hot tubs.
When planning a wedding in the Smoky Mountains, it pays to plan ahead and do a little research. Call several different wedding service providers and be sure to ask questions about not just price but also what you get for your money. What’s included in the price? Are there deals that also include honeymoon accommodations? Also be sure to visit wedding vendor Web sites to look at photos of their ceremony locations and settings and see which works best for you.
Wedding chapels come in all different shapes and sizes, so if it’s just going to be the two of you, you may not need a venue that seats 100. And don’t forget that you can get married in some pretty unique places in the Smokies, including the Hard Rock Café in Gatlinburg or on horseback or even during a helicopter flight!
Although some wedding chapels take walk-ins, don’t leave your big day to chance. Once you’ve picked the place you want to get married, go ahead and reserve the date and give yourself plenty of time to plan. Many chapels have on-site wedding coordinators who will work with you to help you make your day just right. You’ll also need that extra time to plan your honeymoon, including your lodgings and entertainment plans.
Also don’t forget about your wedding license! You can get one of those by contacting the Sevier County Clerk, who has offices at the courthouse in Sevierville as well as a satellite office in Gatlinburg.
