Winterfest Kickoff 2013
Nov 06, 2013
Pigeon Forge, TN knows how to throw a party. And this party, their 24th Annual Winterfest, has a kick-off at 5pm on November 12 that well, literally, ends with a bang!
As an added bonus, you are going to get what's known in the vernacular as a "2-Fer". That's right, a Two -For- One celebration! Pigeon Forge is combining their 3rd Annual Salute to the Veterans parade with their annual Winterfest Kick-Off Party this year – Whoo Hoo! I get goose bumps just thinking about it!
The evening will start, patriotically enough, at 4:30pm with a 30-minute parade honoring our veteran men and women who served in the Armed Forces. With live bands, seasonal floats, and exciting entertainers, the Salute to the Veterans parade will begin on the north side of the Parkway at Light #10, turn right at Light #7 and march right on into Patriot Park!
The Grand Marshal and keynote speaker will be Rocky Bleier, who after serving in Vietnam went on to a career in the NFL as a Pittsburgh Steeler. Currently Bleier is an author who promotes leadership, teamwork, and most of all, hope – an all important ingredient in our lives and this exciting time of year!
At 5pm, total immersion in the Winterfest Kick-Off fun begins! Santa and Mrs. Clause will be available for photos with the little ones. By the way, no one is defining that age, so don't be shy about stepping up to sit on Santa's lap yourself! Of course there will be seasonal treats and drinks from area vendors, as well as a kids' play area, and what would Winterfest be without live musical entertainment!
And, then, the finale! The pièce de résistance! The throwing of the switch that lights up the city's over 5 million, yes, I said 5 MILLION, twinkling, festive, magical, over-the-top, light-decorated displays throughout Pigeon Forge while simultaneously fireworks exploding in the crisp night air trying to compete for the title of "most dazzling"!
Winterfest lasts from November 12, 2013 – February 28, 2014 and is a season long celebration of all things specific to the Great Smoky Mountains including cider-sipping, mountain music, and mountain lore.
