New Smokies App Helps Plan Your Visit with Heartland Cabin Rentals
Feb 05, 2013
Smoky Mountain Travel Guide is a new smartphone application designed for both the iPhone and Android. This interactive guide by Knoxville travel writer Katy Koontz contains more than 200 entries, including sights and activities in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This mobile app contains area information on as attractions, restaurants, accommodations, and shopping in the surrounding gateway communities of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, Townsend, and Cherokee.
In addition to iconic tourist sites, the app also includes not-so-obvious suggestions, such as mom-and-pop eateries and out-of-the-way attractions (including Parrot Mountain outside of Pigeon Forge and the Salt & Pepper Shaker Museum in Gatlinburg). The app covers music theaters, coffee shops, wineries, candy shops, and annual events, as well as useful trip planning information. The entries on the national park include visitor centers, select hiking trails and nature walks, scenic drives, picnic places, horseback riding, and wildlife. It's the perfect planning tool for Heartland Cabin Rental guests who want to get the most out of their visit to the Smokies.
The app is interactive, giving turn-by-turn GPS directions and offering one-tap calling and links to websites and videos. Users can mark entries as favorites for easy reference, as well as leave comments and ask questions for the author to answer (often the same day). The app also gives prices and hours and displays a gallery of photos for each entry. A sorting filter allows users to bring up a list of all entries in specific categories (accommodations, attractions, shopping, restaurants, romantic, historic, theaters, music, annual events, etc.). The lists can be viewed alphabetically, according to municipality, or in order of price or geographic distance from the user at the moment.
Apple users can download Smoky Mountain Travel Guide on the App Store (for use on the iPhone or iPad), while Android users can download the app on Google Play. The cost is $2.99, and periodic updates are free.
