Dollywood’s Great American Summer

“Great American Summer” coming to Dollywood
Summer is just around the corner – and America’s favorite theme park knows just how to celebrate.
“Dollywood’s Great American Summer” is set for June 13-Aug. 2, 2015: Every day, the park will open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Each morning will kick off with a live performance of the Star Spangled Banner, and the nights will conclude with a spectacular fireworks extravaganza entitled “Dolly’s Night of Many Colors.”
Dollywood’s guests can experience rides like Wild Eagle, Thunderhead, Mystery Mine, Tennessee Tornado and the FireChaser Express like never before – under the light of the moon.
The family theme park, which has grown to become the number one paid attraction in the state of Tennessee, is celebrating its 30th season under the ownership of Dolly Parton and her business partners.
Another exciting event coming later in the year is the return of the park’s “Showcase of Stars” concert series, featuring shows from Dolly and other legends like Kenny Rogers.
The park originally opened in 1961 as a small tourist attraction by the Robins brothers from Blowing Rock, N.C., named “Rebel Railroad.” It featured a steam train, general store, blacksmith shop and saloon.
It has also been known as “Goldrush Junction” (1970-1976), “Goldrush” (1976-1977) and “Silver Dollar City” (1977-1986).
Dollywood is organized into 10 themed areas: The Showstreet, Rivertown Junction, Craftsmen’s Valley, Village, Country Fair, Timber Canyon, Jukebox Junction and Wilderness Pass areas all reflect the historical eras and culture of East Tennessee, while the Owens Farm and Adventures in Imagination areas explore Dolly Parton’s life and imagination.
Last year, the FireChaser Express, a dual-launch family rollercoaster, replaced Adventure Mountain in the Wilderness Pass area of the park.
