RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT! ODDITORIUM

There is always something strange going on in downtown Gatlinburg, and on any given day, there’s a good chance it’s taking place at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Odditorium, located on the Parkway across Historic Nature Trail from the Space Needle.

As they like to claim, this museum of the bizarre has been proudly freaking families out for more than 90 years. Based on the cartoon strip and radio program of early 20th century adventurer, Robert Ripley, this longtime Gatlinburg attraction takes you into a world of real-life oddities and amazing feats.

The exhibits—which consist of real-life artifacts, replicas, photos, video footage, hands-on activities and more—include an eight-legged buffalo, a two-headed calf, a shrunken human head and story after story of record-breaking people and objects.

Even standing outside the museum, you’ll get a taste of what’s in store on the inside: A large granite sphere floats effortlessly on water, while the façade of the attraction makes it appear that it has suffered some serious earthquake damage.

However, all is well inside the three-story museum, which offers guests a self-guided tour that can take as little as 45 minutes or as long as one cares to spend exploring every nook and cranny. There are more than 500 exhibits overall, so you could easily hang out for hours there if you have the time.

Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Odditorium is open year ‘round, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Other local Ripley attractions include a world-class aquarium, a 3D moving theater, a haunted adventure, a mirror maze, multiple mini golf courses and the Guinness World Records museum.
